Who can apply?
A: 501(c)(3) nonprofits , an individual, government agency, or for-profit organization that is teamed up with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, or an organization that is fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Grant awards must be given to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Can I submit multiple proposals?
A: You may submit proposals in each of the three grant levels, but not more than one proposal per grant level.
What if I have a proposal that needs funding for an amount different than $25k, $50k, or $100k? Can I submit that?
A: For this challenge, we will consider proposals for one of the three grant levels only.
I am an individual citizen, can I apply?
A: As an individual you can apply if you partner with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or if you are running a program that is fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Grant awards must go to a 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
Can I seek funding for an ongoing project or program?
A: In general, Inspire Mountain View is seeking new and innovative solutions to problems. However, if your program or project is working in another community and you want to bring it to Mountain View, that would qualify. Or, if you are expanding an existing program or project, it would be appropriate to apply. Funding is not intended for simply continuing a current program or project.
Are joint proposals considered?
A: Joint proposals and collaborations between organizations and individuals are encouraged.
Who are the judges?
A: Judging is done in two stages. First, a group of Mountain View leaders and representatives of the donor companies makes their selection for each of the three grant levels. Then the highest scoring proposals are posted online for the public to vote on.
What qualifies as an innovative project?
A: We are looking for new methods, ideas or approaches to addressing social and/or quality of life issues for those who live and work in Mountain View.
How many winners will be selected?
A: There will be three winners selected — one for each of the three grant levels.
Why are companies sponsoring this challenge?
A: The four sponsoring companies are headquartered in Mountain View and are committed to making the community a more compassionate and equitable place to live, work and enjoy. Inspire Mountain View represents an innovative partnership between these companies. They are sponsoring this in addition to their ongoing local and global philanthropic efforts.
Why is Los Altos Community Foundation managing this contest?
A: For over 25 years Los Altos Community Foundation has strengthened the communities of Los Altos, Mountain View, and Los Altos Hills by stimulating local philanthropy and civic engagement. It has done this by giving grants and running programs in these communities. The Foundation sees Inspire Mountain View as a great opportunity to collaborate with companies in Mountain View, such as Google, LinkedIn, Symantec, and Synopsys, for a unique and innovative partnership that helps the community.
